With 36,908 miles Make an Offered
Thank you for taking the time to preview our 1965 Chevy Corvair 500.  It has only traveled 36,908 miles in its time and drives, brakes and runs excellent!

The original 95HP engine along with the original powerglide transmission powers it.  When I bought the car in 2003 it had already had its brakes rebuilt with new wheel cylinders, brake hoses and shoes, it stops beautifully with no pull and a firm pedal.  The emergency brake holds the car, as it should even on steep driveways.

Over the years on the suspension I have replaced the idler arm, pitman arm bushing (with nylon) shocks, ball lower ball joints and front wheel bearings (inner and outer with seals) and it rides on Michelin radials.

The engine had been resealed so NO leaks.  I did go through the engine and replaced items I thought would make it perform better and be more reliable such as electronic ignition, brass tip cap, rotor, NGK plugs, silicon wires, vacuum hoses, vacuum advance, harmonic balancer and seal, rebuilt one carburetor, greased fan bearing as well as idler pulley, coil and starter.  It is very strong and responds perfectly.  The battery had also been replaced as well as cables.  A dual exhaust system was added for better breathing and sounds great.

The transmission was drained and the pan removed to clean filter and place gasket.  New fluid was added with vacuum modulator also replaced.   The differential fluid was drained and replaced as well and there are no leaks.  The Transmission shifts smoothly and is quite as is the differential.  The rear wheel bearings and “U” joints were checked and are perfect.

The body is extremely solid.  It had the original paint when purchased with some surface rust so it got at the time the “Presidential” package from Macco in its original color.  It is now showing minor blistering, which is turning into small holes, otherwise its shinny and clean.

The interior is all-original featuring a front split bench seat.  Both front and back seat are still wrapped in their original vynial (with tears) but have covers over them giving it a clean look.  The headliner has a small hole in it near the rear view mirror.  Door panels are near perfect with some discoloration.  The rear panels and package area in good shape.  The interior is very presentable as is.  All door handles and window mechanisms work, as they should.

In rating this car I would say in all my years with Corvairs it has been and is one the best overall running cars I have had.  It has taken me many places, short and far.  It was driven to the 2006 convention in Buffalo as well as touring Canada and never missed a beat once. Gas mileage is averaging 27 miles to the gallon.  It’s been to Maine a few times taking me to visit my brother and never giving me any trouble, it is a perfect get in and goes type of car without worry no matter where you go.

There are too many cars in my collection and  not enough time to drive them.  My hopes are someone will buy her and enjoy her and care for her as I have and give her a good home.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will answer them as fast as I can.  Thank you for your time and good luck.
